Binary Oppositions

Binary opposition means when two things are different. They don't normally go together.
An example of binary opposition would be in the film called 'The Princess Diaries'. There is a clear difference between the girl and the queen who is her grandmother.
In the film you the Mis-En-Scene which shows the difference between the characters.
The girl in the film is very clumsy, has very bushy hair, wears her school uniform, lives in an apartment etc. She doesnt really live as if shes rich. However, her grandmother who is the queen, has a completely different look to the girl. The grandmother stands and walk with a straight posture, wears beautiful and elegant clothes, lives in a massive mansion and drives around in a limo. She clearly has a very high status as apposed to the girl who looks and acts lower class.
This binary opposition is classic to show the difference between two people.
